Community classes
These classes are taught by male and female instructors and are designed for all ages and abilities, though children and adults often train separately. These sessions are varied in their nature but you can expect a regular taste of everything Karate has to offer. There are also specialist training sessions run throughout the year locally, nationally and internationally.

'After School' Karate
These are specially designed classes which run at the end of the 'school day'. We run these classes in a number of local schools. Interested parties should contact us us for an information pack.

The Schools we currently work with are:

  • St Helen's Primary School
  • The Brougham Centre at Brougham Primary School
  • West Park Primary School
  • Throston Primary School
  • Owton Manor Primary School
  • Fen's Primary School

'In School' Karate
We work with a number of local Primary Schools to offer 'In School' Karate classes as part of their regular P.E. Program. We are also able to run 'taster' sessions during a regular school assembly. Interested parties should contact us us for an information pack.

High Performance Class
This is a 'high level' karate class with the top 10% of the clubs Juniors, Cadets and Adults training together. Advanced Competition Training and Advanced Traditional Karate Concepts & Techniques are taught during these sessions. Due to the advanced nature of this class, students are selected to attend. This weekly two hour session is subsidised by the club and the selected students train for FREE.

Private Lessons
Hartlepool Wadokai are able to offer Private Karate classes to individuals or small groups. Interested parties should contact us us for further information.

Club Membership
Students, especially juniors are continually being assessed, (whether they realise it or not). Beginners must be 'signed off' by two instructors in order to be accepted as club members, there is a one time only payment with club membership. This level of membership is compulsory after 6 weeks or 6 lessons (which ever is the sooner). Members of the club are able to apply for an association licence and take part in specialist training courses and competitions.

Being a member of the club allows students to benefit from attending our subsidised training courses and enter our annual club-only championships! Club Membership also enables a student to apply for an Association Karate Licence (see below).

Club Membership
All Ages
£10.00
Student receives a free lesson on the night they become club members

Association Karate Licence (WAKF - Wado Aiwakai Karate-Do Federation)
After 10 weeks or 10 Lessons (which ever is the sooner), a student is expected to have become a member of our association, this includes the students Karate 'licence' which is needed for the following reasons:

  • It provides personal insurance cover against injury.
  • It provides Third Party liability whilst practising karate
  • It provides individual membership to the English Karate Federation (EKF) and with it all the benefits of membership to the Karate Governing Body.
  • It is mandatory for grading.
  • It is an official grading record.
  • It is required for participation in all competitions.

Hartlepool Wadokai does NOT issue full licence's. Each student is responsible for renewing their own licence annually. Club members 'should' secure an Aiwakai Licence, though other licence's may be allowed as long as they come with adequate insurance cover and the association is affiliated to the English Karate Federation (EKF).

Licence Application
Juniors & Seniors
£25.00 - renewable annually

Cadets are students between 14-16 yrs training in the Adult class
If you are new to the club, then please contact us to confirm that the class times are accurate as they may change from time to time.
